Surrounded by trees and with views over the Ribeira Sacra landscape, this stone house was the first home built in the village. Today it retains its traditional character, with restored spaces, five bedrooms, an inner courtyard and a wooded estate of 2.7 hectares (6.18 acres) with its own spring, ready for its next chapter.
This property is located in O Saviñao, in a small village around 20 km from Monforte de Lemos. The house sits in a green, elevated setting surrounded by woodland, with views over a landscape of gentle mountains stretching in every direction. The paved track that runs through the village provides good connectivity without compromising a remarkable sense of peace and privacy.
This is a traditional stone house built in an L-shape around a small inner courtyard. It was the first building in the village, originally conceived as the home of a hidalgo (a member of the lower nobility); since then, it has always belonged to the same family. The property comprises the house itself and a generous estate of over 2.5 hectares (6.18 acres) including wooded areas. The neighbouring house is uninhabited and does not form part of this property.
The house is built on solid rock, a feature that protects it from ground moisture. It has 585 sqm built spread over two floors, each with its own independent access from outside thanks to the clever use of the sloping terrain.
The main floor is the upper one, where the living spaces are concentrated. It offers five bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a large sitting room with windows opening onto the courtyard. The whole floor is restored and move-in ready, although some areas could still be updated.
The ground floor, on the other hand, remains unrestored. It preserves the traditional spaces with their original stone walls and, underfoot, the bare rock on which the building stands.
The inner courtyard can be reached from the balcony on the upper floor or, from outside, through a wooden gate. Inside, it hides a stone washhouse and a large wood-fired oven, features that speak to the traditional way of life once carried out in this corner of the house. It is a space full of character and potential, combining an open-air central area with covered corners all around.
The estate surrounding the house extends over 2.5 hectares (6.18 acres) on gently sloping ground. It is planted with oaks, mostly American oaks, together with good-sized cork oaks, forming wooded areas that stretch out behind the house. At the top of the estate lies the natural spring that supplies water to the property.
This combination of a traditional home, wooded land and wonderful views also opens the door to other uses, such as developing a rural tourism project that makes the most of the house's historic character, the size of the land and its location in the heart of the Ribeira Sacra.
O Saviñao is a municipality in the province of Lugo, set within the Ribeira Sacra, one of the areas with the highest concentration of rural Romanesque art in the whole of Europe. Churches such as Santo Estevo de Ribas de Miño, San Paio de Diomondi and San Martiño da Cova bear witness to a monastic past dating back to the Early Middle Ages.
The landscape of O Saviñao combines native woodland, meadows and terraced vineyards of the Ribeira Sacra Denomination of Origin, a style of viticulture known as 'heroic' because of the steep slopes on which the grapes are grown. Viewpoints such as O Cabo do Mundo offer privileged views over the meanders of the river Miño, while various hiking routes allow visitors to discover villages, chapels and hillforts of great historical value.
Just 20 km away lies Monforte de Lemos, capital of the Terra de Lemos district and gateway to the Ribeira Sacra. This historic city boasts a notable collection of monuments, as well as a wide range of shops, restaurants and services.
For lovers of swimming and river activities, 21 km from the property lies the A Cova river beach, a recreational area in one of the most attractive spots along the river Miño.
This rustic house in O Saviñao is an excellent opportunity for those seeking a rural home with a story of its own, a wooded estate and the chance to personalise the areas still awaiting restoration, all within a natural setting with wonderful views.
