An unrepeatable architectural legacy awaits in this corner of Galicia, just 15 km from Monforte de Lemos. Built in 1769, this historic ensemble surprises with its Italian-inspired architecture, loggias that open to the landscape and period mural decorations. An additional two-story house and extensive gardens complete this property with enormous potential.
This unique property is located in Bóveda, just 15 km from Monforte de Lemos, in the interior of Lugo province. The ensemble, completely enclosed by a stone wall and situated next to a crossroads that connects several cities, sits on 12,497 m² of land that includes extensive gardens, a pazo and an additional two-story house.
Designed by Lois de Monteagudo, one of the most important Galician architects of the era, this is the only 18th-century Italian-style palace in Galicia. Its architectural concept, with Renaissance lines and open to the landscape, contrasts with the fortified and baroque style typical of Galician pazos. Due to its heritage value and unique characteristics, this construction is considered a Historic-Artistic Monument.
The property consists of the main pazo and the former caretakers' house, two constructions connected by a covered gallery on the upper floor. While both require comprehensive renovation, their solid structure and the variety of original architectural elements they preserve form the perfect base for a restoration project that respects the uniqueness of this ensemble, the only one of its kind in Galicia.
The palace is a construction with a rectangular plan and hip roof topped by four chimneys and several dormer windows. Its architecture features numerous polished granite elements such as jambs, lintels, columns and corner stones that demonstrate mastery in stonework.
On the ground floor, a series of stone arcades form the porticoes that protect the entrance and, above them, terraces inspired by Italian loggias, with stone pillars and wrought iron railings. Several coats of arms carved in stone and sundials integrated into the corners grace the main facade.
In the interior, the spaces surprise with their amplitude and stately style, featuring large salons, coffered ceilings, period mural decorations, stone fireplaces and staircases that combine stone and wood.
The property includes a second construction of two floors connected to the main palace by a covered glazed gallery. The ground floor of this house contains several rooms for storage, one formerly used as a wine cellar. The upper floor includes a large kitchen-dining room and a complete bathroom.
The gardens that embrace the ensemble, covering more than one hectare (2.47 acres) of surface, preserve a variety of trees and plants, centenary cypresses and a circular stone fountain. Currently in a wild state, this extension offers ample possibilities for creating gardens, vegetable plots and outdoor leisure spaces.
The Tierra de Lemos is characterized as a fertile plain crossed by the Cabe river, a territory of great heritage and gastronomic wealth. Monforte de Lemos, the regional capital, is known as the heart of the Ribeira Sacra and features important monuments such as the Keep Tower of the Counts of Lemos, the Escolapios College (known as the little Galician Escorial) and the Ribeira Sacra Wine Center.
Very close by is the enigmatic Santa Eulalia de Bóveda Monument, a late Roman ensemble from the 3rd century declared a Site of Cultural Interest and considered one of Galicia's great archaeological mysteries with its unique frescoes and singular architecture. About 30 minutes away, the Courel-Ancares natural park offers one of the most spectacular and authentic mountain landscapes on the peninsula.
The crossroads bordering the property connects cities like Ourense, Astorga or Madrid, and allows access to Lugo capital in just 40 minutes. Ourense, 50 minutes away, offers direct connection to Madrid thanks to the high-speed train, which reaches the country's capital in just over 2 hours.
The connectivity and accessibility of this property, together with the range of tourist destinations near the estate, make it an exceptional opportunity to develop a distinctive rural tourism project or create a luxury family residence in a historic construction unique in Galicia.
