Just 5 km from Vilalba, these three semi-detached houses to restore make up a property full of possibilities. A complete rural ensemble with over 5,000 m² of land, a traditional hórreo and a large stone alpendre, in a quiet village with open views over the Terra Chá.
This property is located in a small village just 5 km from Vilalba, capital of the Terra Chá region. The estate covers a total area of 5,174 m² and includes three semi-detached houses, a traditional Galician hórreo, a stone alpendre and a large plot of land at the rear. Access is direct from the road, with good connections to both Vilalba and the rest of the province.
The village is part of the characteristic landscape of the Terra Chá, the largest district in Galicia, with green meadows, native woodland and a flat profile that contrasts with the mountainous terrain of the surrounding area. A peaceful territory, rooted in rural tradition and vernacular architecture.
The property includes a total of 276 m² of built space distributed across three semi-detached buildings of different typologies and states of conservation, forming a rural ensemble with great character. All three share the same façade facing the road and are complemented by the exterior elements that surround them.
The first building is the best preserved, and stands out visually from the outside due to its large glazed gallery on the first floor, which makes it a singular and very bright space. The ground floor is an open-plan space, while the upper floor —accessible via an external staircase— houses a kitchen-living-dining room presided over by the large windows of the gallery, a traditional wood-burning stove, two bedrooms and a bathroom. This floor retains a set of antique carved wooden furniture —a display cabinet, an extendable table and beds— with the typical character of Galician rural homes.
The second house, with two floors, has both levels as open-plan spaces, with stone masonry walls and a wooden beam floor structure. The upper floor is accessible via a wooden staircase. The central building, on a single floor, retains inside a traditional stone wood-burning oven, a characteristic element of Galician rural homes.
In front of the houses stands a large stone alpendre whose roof needs repair. It is a singular construction, with masonry pillars and great amplitude, offering multiple possibilities once restored.
Next to it, a traditional Galician hórreo in good condition, with a wooden and stone body, a slate gable roof and a balustrade with carved details.
Behind the houses extends a large plot of land, open and with unobstructed views over the Terra Chá landscape.
Vilalba is the capital of the Terra Chá and one of the most important towns in the interior of Lugo. Its most recognisable landmark is the Torre dos Andrade, a medieval tower with an octagonal floor plan built in the 13th century that today houses a Parador Nacional de Turismo. The town is also a stop on the Camino de Santiago del Norte, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015.
The natural surroundings of Vilalba invite outdoor activity: the Paseo Fluvial y Literario del río Magdalena, around 3 km long, follows the riverbank past mills, dams and a small river beach. The Muíño do Rañego and its recreational area are another point of interest in the municipality. For hiking enthusiasts, the surrounding hills offer routes through forests and pastures.
The territory belongs to the Terras do Miño Biosphere Reserve, declared by UNESCO in 2002, which protects an exceptional ecosystem of great biodiversity, with wetlands, riparian forests and a wide variety of fauna. From a gastronomic point of view, Vilalba is known for the capón vilalbés —with its own fair declared of tourist interest in December— and for San Simón da Costa cheese, with a Protected Designation of Origin, one of the most valued cheeses in Galicia.
The location of the property offers excellent connectivity: the town of Vilalba is 5 km away, Lugo capital approximately 50 km, A Coruña around 83 km and Santiago de Compostela airport around 100 km.
This property represents a singular opportunity for those looking to restore an authentic rural ensemble in the heart of the Terra Chá, with elements of great architectural and ethnographic value, in one of the regions with the strongest cultural identity in inland Galicia.
